Many standard library classification schemes can be challenging to use in specialist medical and veterinary libraries. The age of some schemes means knowledge is organised in an outdated way, often biased towards an Anglo-American worldview. Barnard’s scheme offers a practical and accessible scheme for libraries with collections in public and global health. The scheme supports classification across the formal, natural, and social sciences. This third edition is extensively revised, providing a classification scheme which meets health-focused library and information services’ collections requirements, reflects current research and teaching priorities in public and global health, and acknowledges the global creation of knowledge.
